A golden bear conquers the world
A gummy bear (German: Gummibärchen) is a small, fruit gum candy, similar to a jelly baby in some English-speaking countries. The candy is roughly 2 cm (0.8 in) long and shaped in the form of a bear. The gummy bear is one of many gummies, popular gelatin-based candies sold in a variety of shapes and colors.
The gummy bear was invented in 1922 by Hans Riegel and initially marketed under the name Dancing Bear. Since 1967, Haribo calls his gummy bears to distinguish it from the products of other manufacturers Goldbären.
For the German market, they are now colored with natural fruit extracts, after artificial dyes were used in the past.
The assortment was changed in August 2007 partly. As new apple flavor was added. Apple got the color green, and the flavor strawberry previously had the color green, was recolored in pink. In addition, the Goldbärform has changed slightly over previous generations: All Goldbären were henceforth a "smiling" face.
